Holdings include individual manuscripts pertaining to the Crusades and the Near East from the 14th to the 19th centuries. Collection contains material of religious nature such as sermons, breviaries, liturgical works, calendars of church feasts, treatise on the Christian religion, and works of and about saints and religious leaders. Material of special note includes accounts and diaries of travels in the Near East, pilgrimages to the Holy Land, and accounts of expeditions; histories and descriptions of Venice, Constantinople, Malta, Cyprus, etc.; and works about Knights of Malta, Templars, and other military religious orders. Also includes 19th century copies of manuscripts recounting the history of the Crusades, the sack of Jerusalem, and capture of Constantinople; inventory, 1709, of the treasures of Chartres Cathedral; poems in Latin and Italian; biographical essays; and account books, commissions, financial tables, and genealogies. Many of the items are on vellum with illuminated borders and initials, and miniatures.
